OpenAI is reportedly working on developing an alternative code hosting platform to compete with Microsoft’s GitHub. According to reports, the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company has started early-stage work on the project after experiencing several disruptions caused by outages on GitHub in recent months. These service interruptions reportedly affected multiple project pipelines used by OpenAI engineers.
The project is still in its initial phase and may take time to be completed. Reports suggest that OpenAI is also considering offering the repository hosting service to its customers for a fee in the future. GitHub remains one of the most widely used platforms for developers, offering several integrated tools and features, making it a major challenge for any new competitor entering the space.
