CM Revanth Reddy Alleges Discrimination by Centre Against Southern States in Terms of Interests

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made key remarks on delimitation and the proposed 50% increase in parliamentary seats. He stated that the increase in seats should be in proportion to the existing gap between northern and southern states in current MP constituencies. He also alleged that the Central government is showing injustice and discrimination towards the interests of southern states.

He called upon southern states to be prepared to fight against the delimitation issue. He questioned the basis on which the 50% increase in seats is being proposed. He warned that if this proposal becomes final, it would act as a “final bullet” causing serious damage to southern states. He also expressed concern that an increase in seats in northern states could reduce the necessity of southern states in forming governments at the Centre.

The Chief Minister further said that a 50% increase in seats could reduce the representation and influence of leaders from southern states in national politics. He added that even if seat allocation is based on population, southern states would still suffer losses. He suggested that the issue should be discussed with all political parties before moving forward. He termed the increase in constituencies as against the interests of southern states and alleged that the NDA government is widening the gap between North and South India. He also said he would take this issue to the public during election campaigns in southern states. He made these remarks during a discussion with a Telugu news channel in Delhi on Tuesday.
