Deputy Floor Leader of the BRS Legislature in Telangana has openly criticized Congress, accusing it of hypocrisy over constitutional protection. In an open letter to Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, he highlighted that MLA Danam Nagender, elected on a BRS ticket, contested the Lok Sabha elections using a Congress B-Form. Despite this clear case, the Telangana Assembly Speaker, from Congress, claims there is “no evidence of defection.” The BRS leader argued that allowing such political defections undermines the spirit of the anti-defection law and weakens democratic principles.
The letter calls on Rahul Gandhi to direct his party’s Telangana leadership to take immediate action under the anti-defection provisions or clarify whether the Congress party defends the Constitution selectively for political convenience. It stresses that defending the Constitution requires decisive action, not just speeches, and that voters’ mandates must be respected.
